Pres spox: Russian govt has no intention to fully control Internet
MOSCOW, Feb 11 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has no intention of gaining a full control over the Internet, but sees threats to security, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of President Vladimir Putin, told reporters Thursday.
Any country heavily depends on advanced technologies, Peskov said.
“In this sense, such a big country as Russia should have its potential to offset any possible unfriendly steps, aimed at misbalancing whole segments of the network. The work in this direction is well under way; the tasks were set. It would be wrong to interpret it as a full control over the Internet,” Peskov said.
The Internet contains potential threats to security, he said.
Business daily Vedomosti earlier reported, citing several sources, that the communications ministry had prepared a bill on state control over the flow of traffic in the country.
